Maria Santos
Senior Wellness Strategist & Course Director
Boundary & Balance Inc.
Maria’s been helping Filipino professionals reclaim their personal time for nearly 15 years. She’s worked with over 2,000 people across Manila, Cebu, and Davao — corporate executives, call center agents, small business owners — all wrestling with the same problem: endless work demands that eat into family time, health, and sanity. Her approach isn’t about working less or feeling guilty for wanting a life outside the office. It’s about understanding the unique pressures of Filipino workplace culture and building practical systems that actually stick.

Professional Journey
From corporate HR to helping thousands find balance
Started as HR Consultant
Began working in traditional corporate HR roles but quickly realized that standard wellness programs weren’t addressing the real cultural dynamics of Filipino workplaces — the unspoken expectations, the hierarchy, the difficulty saying no to bosses and family.
Transitioned to Independent Practice
Left corporate consulting to develop her own frameworks specifically designed for Filipino professionals. Started working with small groups, then expanded to corporate training contracts. This is where things really took off.
Developed Signature Programs
Created her most popular courses: managing after-hours message expectations, building device-free evening routines, weekend energy restoration rituals, and saying no without guilt in workplace and family situations. These programs now reach hundreds of professionals annually.
Senior Wellness Strategist at Boundary & Balance Inc.
Now leads course development and training delivery. Works with companies across industries to redesign workplace cultures that actually respect personal boundaries. Focused on making boundary-setting accessible to every Filipino professional, regardless of industry or income.
Areas of Specialization
Work-Life Harmony in Filipino Culture
Maria doesn’t just teach boundary-setting theory — she understands the actual pressures that Filipino professionals face. The hierarchical respect for authority figures, the family obligations that blur into work time, the cultural stigma around saying no. She’s developed strategies that work within these realities, not against them. Her approach acknowledges that healthy boundaries in the Philippines look different than in Western contexts.
After-Hours Communication Expectations
One of her biggest focuses. She’s worked with teams to establish realistic expectations around after-hours messages from colleagues and clients. The courses cover how to politely set communication boundaries, how to structure your email and messaging to reduce panic responses, and how to manage the guilt that often comes with not responding immediately. It’s practical stuff that actually works.
Device-Free Evening Routines & Recovery
Maria recognizes that many Filipino professionals have brutal commutes — sometimes 1-2 hours each way in Manila traffic. By the time they get home, they’re mentally exhausted. She helps design evening routines that actually restore energy instead of just replacing work stress with social media scrolling. These aren’t complicated routines — they’re simple, sustainable practices that fit into real life.
Saying No Without Guilt
This is cultural work. Saying no to a boss in Filipino culture carries different weight than it does in individualistic societies. Same with family. Maria teaches practical language, timing strategies, and ways to reframe “no” so it doesn’t damage relationships. Her participants learn that boundaries actually strengthen professional relationships — they don’t weaken them.
Why This Matters
Maria started down this path because of her own family. She watched her parents, siblings, and relatives sacrifice their health and happiness for work — staying late at the office out of respect for their boss, answering work messages at midnight, feeling guilty for wanting weekends off. She saw the stress manifest as health problems, relationship strain, and this pervasive exhaustion that nobody talked about.
She realized that most wellness advice came from Western contexts that didn’t account for Filipino values: family, respect for hierarchy, loyalty. You can’t just transplant American boundary-setting techniques into a culture where saying no to your boss feels like betrayal. That’s why she built her own frameworks from the ground up — combining cognitive behavioral techniques with deep cultural understanding. The result is something that actually works for Filipino professionals, not against their values.
At Boundary & Balance Inc., her mission is straightforward: make work-life harmony accessible to every Filipino professional, regardless of whether they’re in corporate, BPO, government, or running their own business. Because everyone deserves a life outside of work. And that’s not lazy or uncommitted — it’s actually the foundation of sustainable performance and real wellbeing.
